Yeah not bad. Not great, bit boring, but not bad. The second half was a real chore to watch and we were hanging on for a long spell there, but a win is a win and getting them away from home is rarely easy. Especially when you’re playing the way we are at the moment.   It’s not clicking but it is functioning well enough to beat the bottom half dregs we’ve faced so far, so I’m not complaining. Well not too much anyway.   Slot said afterwards he was pleased with the first hour

  • Slot: I have full confidence in Darwin

Arne Slot says that Darwin Nunez will get plenty of opportunities to display his talents this season.   To date, the Uruguayan striker has made four appearances totalling 85 minutes this season and against Ipswich he was an unused substitute.   Nunez’s midweek appearance against AC Milan was his 100th for the Reds where he has scored 33 goals in all competitions along with 16 assists.   There has been a prevailing view amongst the fanbase that this season his third

Alisson: As players we need to be listened to regarding issue of fixture congestion

Alisson Becker is the latest figure in the game to speak out about the excessive fixture congestion of the football calendar   In his time as Reds Manager, Jurgen Klopp raised the topic when he felt it was right to highlight the plight of not just Liverpool players, but the wellbeing of Footballers in general.   The German, who recently gave up smoking and can now be found using vape pens, came up with this profound statement in the lead-up to the 2022 World Cup which took p

Slot: Bond between fans and myself will come through performance of the team

Arne Slot says that he hopes he will strike up a lasting relationship with Liverpool fans but he will go about things in a different way to his predecessor.   The Dutchman has made an efficient start in his first few months as manager both with results on the pitch and with the way he has handled the press pack and the overall impression he has given to the fanbase at large.   In a nutshell, he is grateful by what he has been left by an iconic figure and is respectful for wha

Monday Oct 7:   New contracts in the pipeline! But not for who we would have thought. Konate and Quansah are being lined up for new deals, with the word from the LFC journos that talks are continuing with the ‘big three’ but no common ground has been found yet, which is really fucking worrying. Richard Hughes has supposedly said it's a really difficult situation he's inherited and that the club are determined not to allow these kind of contract issues to happen again.   Mate,

It’s not a game we’ll be remembering beyond this week, but that doesn’t matter as the group stages of this competition are just about putting yourself in position to make the knock out stages. Other than Olympiakos, I don’t think I could tell you any opponent we faced in the group stages in any year we won it or reached the final.   So this wasn’t particularly good (it may have been worse than Wolves at the weekend) but we’re winning games even though we’ve still got a lot of improving

Ok, it wasn’t good and we can play a lot better, but a win is a win and despite not hitting the heights we’d like to, we deserved this one. Not that it matters what you deserve or don’t deserve, but as poor as we were in attack for large periods of the game, it’s worth pointing out that Alisson had nothing to do and that the goal we conceded was entirely self inflicted.   So that’s a good thing as defensively we got it right. The goal apart, we defended well and kept Wolves at arm’s le

Yes, it is I, Le Clerc, or at least Dan Thomas, with your match report of the 5-1 swatting of West Ham. That ended up being a load of fun, didn’t it?   After 20 minutes and being 1-0 down to a Keystone Kops own goal, it didn’t look like it would be a lot of fun at all. The much changed Reds however roared back in style to complete a 5-1 rout of West Ham, the same result as last season when we went on the lift the Coca Cola/Carling/Capital One/Carabao Cup. Liverpool 3 Bournemouth 0 (Sep 21 2024)

We won this game in the first half, so I’m not particularly bothered that the second half wasn’t the best. I don’t think this is going to be team that regularly hits five or six even when the opponent is ripe for the picking, I think we’ll see more of this sort of thing, just managing the game.   Which is fine, but I have no doubt that we could have smashed Bournemouth if we’d maintained full intensity. I get why we didn’t though and I’m happy with what we saw in the first half. It was

That’s not to take anything away from Chelsea who did what they had to do and *grits teeth* looked good doing it. You started out with the Blues. Was it always going to be Everton or did you have any trials with Liverpool when you were a kid?     It was always going to be Everton, I didn’t get an option. When I was 10 or 11 I was scouted by them and that was the first thing I did, join Everton. All my family were Evertonians - lots of them still are - so it was a natural thing to do and I was very fortunate. Things change quickly in life though.    We’ll get to why you left in a second, but I wanted t

When you think of guile and grace as a midfielder, one name that personally comes to mind is Xabi Alonso. To this day, Xabi remains in my top three all-time favourite Liverpool players for many of the qualities that will be discussed in this piece.Signed for a absolute snip at £10.7 million from Real Sociedad at the start of Rafa Benitez's tenure in the summer of 2004, the Spaniard's arrival in England was at the peak of a pre-eminent era for central midfielders in the Premier League. "El Niño strikes - Fernando Torres’ first goal" by Jason Harris

When an eagle-eyed photographer spied the words 'You’ll Never Walk Alone' on an armband worn by Fernando Torres in an Atletico Madrid game, it appeared destiny that the Spaniard would one day play for the Reds.   Liverpool fans were crying out for an iconic figure to lead the line and help take the team to the next level. Their dreams became a reality when Rafa Benitez signed the 23-year-old from his boyhood club for £27 million, which at the time was a club record fee. While Torres wa

'SuperDan' breaks the drought at Old Trafford (2000/01)" by Jason Harris

"One day we will beat Manchester United, I promise you that." Those were the immortal words from Gerard Houllier after a gut-wrenching 2-1 defeat to the Red Devils at Old Trafford in January of 1999.    Houllier was never a manager chasing headlines with the way he spoke, but the Frenchman saw something in the team he had taken sole ownership over just a few months before after initially sharing the role with Roy Evans.   It had been close to ten years of misery when playing

Emlyn Hughes is one of Liverpool finest ever players and captains, having given 12 years sterling service to the club and captaining the Reds to their first European Cup success in 1977.   Emlyn saw and did it all during his time on Merseyside, but of all the weird and wonderful things he experienced as a Liverpool player, perhaps nothing was as surreal and memorable as his first night as a Red.   The following is an extract from Emlyn’s book, entitled ‘Emlyn Hughes: Crazy Horse’, and re

Tommy Smith was known as the Anfield Iron and one of the hardest men to ever pull on the Red shirt. Ron Yeats was an even more fearsome individual, a man mountain who had made a living slaughtering animals in an abattoir before becoming a professional footballer.   Yeats struck fear into Liverpool's opponents during the 1960s, while his young apprentice Smith took over the mantle throughout the following decade.   The following extract, taken from Smith’s book, Tommy Smith: I Did it the

Kop Tales In Their Own Words: Steve McMahon - Switching Sides

Swapping Everton for Liverpool is always a contentious move likely to upset fans of the Blues, but when you’re a local lad, boyhood fan and a player who became club captain it’s going to sting a lot more.    Steve McMahon could have joined Liverpool immediately after walking away from Goodison Park. He was out of contract and there would have been nothing Everton could have done to stop it, but out of respect for his boyhood club McMahon instead chose to make a two year stop at Aston V
