At the same time that the under 19's were in action, the under 17 side were also playing Barnsley.ß The Academy at Oakwell is on two different levels, so Dave Shannon's boys were on the high pitch which is up a steep 20 foot slope to where the under 19's were playing.

A really strong wind threatened to spoil the game but didn't stop Liverpool from putting in an excellent performance. They were without Mannix, Gillespie, Potter, McGrath and Harrison so Scottish schoolboy Robbie Foy came in for his debut on the right wing with Murray playing on the left.

The wind was on Liverpool`s side in the first half and two "exocet" shots by striker Jason Massie gave them a 2-0 lead at half time. Captain David Raven was outstanding at the back and Carl Clampitt never put a foot wrong in midfield in what must be the under 17's best performance of the season so far.

Liverpool continued to dominate in the second half and got a third goal midway through. Matty Murray got the ball on the wing and went on a run that lost his marker and beat the keeper at the near post.

Liverpool Team:-ß Tim Dittmer, Stephen Vaughan, Chris Butler, Adam Flynn, David Raven, Andy Wright, Matty Murray, Carl Clampitt, Jason Massie, Mark Smyth, Robbie Foy:
