Bournemouth 0 Liverpool 2 (Feb 1 2025)
I’m going to break from the norm here and just go straight to an incident in the game and start with that. I’ll get to the actual match report in due course but I’m going to start with the penalty because nothing sums up just how absolutely fucked up football fans have become that this clear as day foul is somehow being made into a “controversial” decision. I’ve just watched MOTD and the commentator said he was surprised it wasn’t overturned. Lineker, Given and whoever the other one

PSV Eindhoven 3 Liverpool 2 (Jan 29 2025)
I know it didn’t matter, and that we finished top anyway, but this defeat still stung me a little. I really wanted the win and to keep the 100% record, but I would have been fine with a loss if we just hadn’t shown up or if I felt like it was deserved. That’s not the case, we did not deserve to lose this game at all and the makeshift side we put out gave all they had. So I was disappointed. Not with them, but for them. PSV haven’t lost at home for 50 odd games but had we been a bit l
Liverpool 4 Ipswich Town 1 (Jan 25 2025)
We don’t tend to have many of these, so this was a nice stress free afternoon. I can’t remember too many occasions where we went into the second half knowing that the game was already won, usually we’re 0-0 or losing. More of this please, Reds. Of course we won’t be playing teams as poor as Ipswich too often. Watching this it was easy to see how they conceded six last week against City. We could have easily matched that if we’d been inclined to push for it, but we settled for four an
Liverpool 2 Lille 1 (Jan 21 2025)
That was fairly low key but that’s fine, we got the result we needed and I don’t think we had to expend too much energy to get it. It was a dominant performance over a team that hadn’t lost since September, and I don’t think we really ever had to go higher than third gear. Seven wins from seven, top spot in the group and guaranteed to finish no lower than second. I didn’t even realise what the benefit of that is until this morning. I knew it meant that in theory we get an inferior op
Brentford 0 Liverpool 2 (Jan 18 2025)
Fucking get in there!!! At the end of the season I feel like we’ll look back on this weekend as when the title was won. This was the ‘late win at Villa’ moment from our last title season if you like. We didn’t know it at the time, but when it was all said and done and we looked back, that game jumped out as the pivotal moment and Sadio’s winning goal is seared into the memories of everyone, even old fuckers like me with fading memories. United at home was the game that cemented it i

"Macca Can" - Steve McMahon interview
You started out with the Blues. Was it always going to be Everton or did you have any trials with Liverpool when you were a kid? It was always going to be Everton, I didn’t get an option. When I was 10 or 11 I was scouted by them and that was the first thing I did, join Everton. All my family were Evertonians - lots of them still are - so it was a natural thing to do and I was very fortunate. Things change quickly in life though. We’ll get to why you left in a second, but I wanted t

Kop Tales In Their Own Words: Emlyn's first night as a Red
Emlyn Hughes is one of Liverpool finest ever players and captains, having given 12 years sterling service to the club and captaining the Reds to their first European Cup success in 1977. Emlyn saw and did it all during his time on Merseyside, but of all the weird and wonderful things he experienced as a Liverpool player, perhaps nothing was as surreal and memorable as his first night as a Red. The following is an extract from Emlyn’s book, entitled ‘Emlyn Hughes: Crazy Horse’, and re
Kop Tales In Their Own Words: Smith, Yeats and Mayhem in Majorca
Tommy Smith was known as the Anfield Iron and one of the hardest men to ever pull on the Red shirt. Ron Yeats was an even more fearsome individual, a man mountain who had made a living slaughtering animals in an abattoir before becoming a professional footballer. Yeats struck fear into Liverpool's opponents during the 1960s, while his young apprentice Smith took over the mantle throughout the following decade. The following extract, taken from Smith’s book, Tommy Smith: I Did it the
Kop Tales In Their Own Words: Steve McMahon - Switching Sides
Swapping Everton for Liverpool is always a contentious move likely to upset fans of the Blues, but when you’re a local lad, boyhood fan and a player who became club captain it’s going to sting a lot more. Steve McMahon could have joined Liverpool immediately after walking away from Goodison Park. He was out of contract and there would have been nothing Everton could have done to stop it, but out of respect for his boyhood club McMahon instead chose to make a two year stop at Aston V
