PSG 0 Liverpool 1 (Mar 5 2025)
Sometimes you just have to laugh. A largely terrible performance where we could barely string three passes together and where the opposition looked like world beaters, but somehow we came away with a win after only having one shot the entire night. The reason for that is pretty simple though; the best goalkeeper in the world producing the best performance of a stellar career. Maybe the best goalkeeping performance ever? Certainly as far as Liverpool is concerned anyway. Peter Schmeic

Liverpool Cannot Afford to Lose Mohamed Salah This Summer
The ongoing uncertainty about Mohamed Salah’s future at Liverpool has not a had a damaging impact on his performances for the club. Salah has bagged 30 goals and 22 assists in 39 appearances in all competitions this season – numbers which hammer home his importance to Liverpool. Despite this, the club have yet to agree a new deal with the 32-year-old, sparking fears that he could walk away from Anfield this summer. Plenty of top European clubs would be eager to sign Salah
Slot: I always protect my players but will not accept when they do not give everything
Arne Slot has explained in detail his comments regarding Darwin Nunez which came after the Uruguayan striker had an evening to forget against Aston Villa last week. In a tense encounter at Villa Park and the scores locked at 2-2, Nunez who is beloved and maligned by the Reds fanbase in equal measure missed a guilt-edged chance to put the visitors in front. After undoubtedly being the hero a few weeks before against Brentford, it was a snapshot of the career of Nunez in L
Van Dijk: I am very calm about my current situation
Virgil Van Dijk is known for his incredible composure under pressure on the pitch and despite much speculation over his contract status he is keeping true to form off it as well. Barely a game goes by without either Arne Slot, or one of the three soon to be out of contract stars asked about their current status. Mo Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Van Dijk have each gone about it in different ways. Certainly in Salah’s case, the Egyptian superstar has been cryptic at tim

That was the Week that Was (Feb 24 - Mar 2 2025)
Monday Feb 24: What the fuck are Daniel Levy and the rest of the Spurs board playing at? Emailing all the media outlets to ask them not to refer to them as “Tottenham” and that it must be either “Tottenham Hotspur” or “Spurs”. Get the fuck out of here you precious, arrogant wankers. Apparently this is about “the brand” but honestly, just fuck off. No wonder Tottenham fans hate this cunt. Yes, that was deliberate and I’ll be referring to them as Tottenham until further notice, as will
Premier League Round Up (Feb 21-27 2025)
Lot to get through in this one as it’s a weekend plus a full round of midweek games to cover. I’ll start at Goodison. Now some of you might have been surprised to see the Blues playing at home given we saw the big emotional farewell to “the old lady” a couple of weeks ago, but that wasn’t actually the last game being played there. I know to the casual observer it must have looked like it, but that’s just because it was the “last game that mattered to Everton”. This week t
Liverpool 2 Newcastle United 0 (Feb 26 2025)
Coming off the back of such a pivotal weekend, this was exactly the kind of performance we needed. I think the players made a statement here. Not an emphatic one that makes everybody go overboard on how amazing this team is, but it was the kind of grown up, dominant, never in doubt kind of performance that showed everybody that this in the bag. To describe is a professional performance doesn’t really do it justice as it was much more entertaining than that, but the scoreline didn’t
Manchester City 0 Liverpool 2 (Feb 23 2025)
This always had the potential to be a hugely significant weekend in the title race, and so it proved. Not in the way many will have hoped though. Arsenal fans (plus Everton and United fans), as well as neutrals wanting an exciting end to the season will have circled this weekend as the one when the ‘race’ could possibly come alive. There was a potential scenario where Arsenal won at home to West Ham (as most expected they would) and we lost away at City (which was not out of the ques

Aston Villa 2 Liverpool 2 (Feb 19 2025)
Another one of those “good point in isolation” results. Nothing particularly wrong with a draw at Villa Park, but that’s six draws in eleven games now, and they can’t all be “good points”. There’s no cause for panic as we still have a healthy lead, but in reality this title should already be wrapped up. Don’t concede stoppage times equalisers at Everton and Newcastle and the lead is 12. Beat the worst United team in our lifetime at Anfield and it’s 15. That’s without even mentioning
Liverpool 2 Wolves 1 (Feb 16 2025)
Can we all just calm the fuck down a bit? There’s absolutely no need for the nerves that were on show at Anfield on Sunday. I’m not just talking about the fans either, as I thought the players were more scared than the crowd were against Wolves. The negative energy that came from the stands was just a manifestation of what we were seeing on the pitch. Everyone needs to take a step back and look at the league table I think, because this fear that feels like it’s beginning to take hol

Premier League Round Up (Feb 14-16 2025)
Arsenal beat Leicester, as expected but after 80 minutes it was 0-0 and it was looking good for us. Then emergency stand in striker Merino was left completely unmarked in the middle of the six yard box and headed them in front. I switched it off then so didn’t see his second goal. Every game for Arsenal is potentially going to be a grind because of their lack of strikers, and a team with more attacking quality and a back four that isn’t completely fucking useless would probably have
Premier League Round Up (Feb 1-3 2025)
Obviously the big game of the weekend was at the Emirates on Sunday, but I’ll get to that in a bit. I’ll start with the Saturday games and I may as well begin with the 12.30 kick off because that was the story of the day. Last week Forest lost 5-0 at Bournemouth, and while they will still have been slight favourites to bounce back with a win at home against Brighton, nobody could have envisaged them hitting seven. Forest just aren’t that kind of team, they keep it tight and they coun

That was the Week that Was (Feb 17-21 2025)
Monday Feb 17: The first goal scored at Everton’s new stadium was by a Harrison Rimmer, a Wigan u18 player, who celebrated with a massive knee slide in front of the Everton fans and then twice flashed them the “six times” celebration. Isn’t that just the most Everton thing ever? Actually no, the most Everton thing ever was a few minutes later when Rimmer picked up the ball and you could hear on the audio a fan shouting “break his fucking legs!!” After the game Rimmer posted photos of

Monday Feb 10: We would have got City away if we’d won yesterday. Glad we’re out now. We’d probably beat City but we’d have to go much stronger than we’d ideally like in order to do it. Far better to have that weekend off. That doesn’t mean I wanted to go out, I absolutely didn’t, but this is the hand we’ve been dealt and as much as yesterday was shite, I think we’ll be better off in the long run. In other ‘news’ there’s more stuff about how ‘close’ the Saudis were to getting Da

"Macca Can" - Steve McMahon interview
You started out with the Blues. Was it always going to be Everton or did you have any trials with Liverpool when you were a kid? It was always going to be Everton, I didn’t get an option. When I was 10 or 11 I was scouted by them and that was the first thing I did, join Everton. All my family were Evertonians - lots of them still are - so it was a natural thing to do and I was very fortunate. Things change quickly in life though. We’ll get to why you left in a second, but I wanted t

"Xabi Alonso's 70 yard screamer against Newcastle (2006/07)" by Jason Harris
When you think of guile and grace as a midfielder, one name that personally comes to mind is Xabi Alonso. To this day, Xabi remains in my top three all-time favourite Liverpool players for many of the qualities that will be discussed in this piece.Signed for a absolute snip at £10.7 million from Real Sociedad at the start of Rafa Benitez's tenure in the summer of 2004, the Spaniard's arrival in England was at the peak of a pre-eminent era for central midfielders in the Premier League. He joined
"El Niño strikes - Fernando Torres’ first goal" by Jason Harris
When an eagle-eyed photographer spied the words 'You’ll Never Walk Alone' on an armband worn by Fernando Torres in an Atletico Madrid game, it appeared destiny that the Spaniard would one day play for the Reds. Liverpool fans were crying out for an iconic figure to lead the line and help take the team to the next level. Their dreams became a reality when Rafa Benitez signed the 23-year-old from his boyhood club for £27 million, which at the time was a club record fee. While Torres wa
'SuperDan' breaks the drought at Old Trafford (2000/01)" by Jason Harris
"One day we will beat Manchester United, I promise you that." Those were the immortal words from Gerard Houllier after a gut-wrenching 2-1 defeat to the Red Devils at Old Trafford in January of 1999. Houllier was never a manager chasing headlines with the way he spoke, but the Frenchman saw something in the team he had taken sole ownership over just a few months before after initially sharing the role with Roy Evans. It had been close to ten years of misery when playing

Kop Tales In Their Own Words: Emlyn's first night as a Red
Emlyn Hughes is one of Liverpool finest ever players and captains, having given 12 years sterling service to the club and captaining the Reds to their first European Cup success in 1977. Emlyn saw and did it all during his time on Merseyside, but of all the weird and wonderful things he experienced as a Liverpool player, perhaps nothing was as surreal and memorable as his first night as a Red. The following is an extract from Emlyn’s book, entitled ‘Emlyn Hughes: Crazy Horse’, and re
Kop Tales In Their Own Words: Smith, Yeats and Mayhem in Majorca
Tommy Smith was known as the Anfield Iron and one of the hardest men to ever pull on the Red shirt. Ron Yeats was an even more fearsome individual, a man mountain who had made a living slaughtering animals in an abattoir before becoming a professional footballer. Yeats struck fear into Liverpool's opponents during the 1960s, while his young apprentice Smith took over the mantle throughout the following decade. The following extract, taken from Smith’s book, Tommy Smith: I Did it the
Kop Tales In Their Own Words: Steve McMahon - Switching Sides
Swapping Everton for Liverpool is always a contentious move likely to upset fans of the Blues, but when you’re a local lad, boyhood fan and a player who became club captain it’s going to sting a lot more. Steve McMahon could have joined Liverpool immediately after walking away from Goodison Park. He was out of contract and there would have been nothing Everton could have done to stop it, but out of respect for his boyhood club McMahon instead chose to make a two year stop at Aston V
